A 400 GeV proton beam is incident upon a Ta target. The pi+ inclusive invariant cross section in mb/Gev**2 was measured vs. outgoing pi+ kinetic energy at 70, 90 and 118 degrees. - Reference: Bayukov et al., ITEP preprint ITEP-80-37.
Simulation Conditions - Geant4 version: 8.1
- Models: QGS, HEP
Comments - Red points: data, Green points: QGS model, Blue points: HEP model
- Predictions of the QGS model:
- Predictions lie within the scatter of experimental points except for points at 70 degrees, 200 MeV (30% low) and at 118 degrees, 100 MeV (20% low).
- Predictions of the HEP model:
- 70 degrees: good agreement at 200 MeV, increasing over-estimate with energy (up to 100%)
- 90 degrees: over-estimates data at all energies, from 50% at 200 MeV to 100% at 650 MeV
- 118 degrees: over-estimates at nearly all energies, up to 400% at 200 MeV
Summary - The QGS model best describes the data at all angles, and generally falls within the scatter of the data points.
