A proton beam of 730 MeV is incident upon a C target. The double-differential pi+ cross sections are measured vs. angle and kinetic energy. - Data Reference: D.R.F. Cochran et al., Phys. Rev. D6, 3085 (1972).
- Error bars are between 8 and 18%, statistical.
Simulation Conditions - Geant4 version: 6.1
- Models: Bertini cascade, LEP
Comments - Error bars are smaller than the data symbols.
- Same data in top and bottom set of plots
- Predictions of the Bertini cascade:
- at 15 degrees over-estimate by 50% and Tpi = 300 MeV and underestimate by 50% at Tpi = 500 MeV
- at 45 degrres over-estimate by 200% at Tpi = 200 MeV
- at 90 degrees over-estimate by 200% at Tpi = 75 MeV
- at 135 degrees over-estimate by 200% at Tpi = 50 MeV
- Predictions of the LEP model:
- qualitative disagreement at all energies
Summary - The Bertini cascade does a much better job of describing the data than the LEP model. However, the Bertini model still differs from data by factors of 2 for the larger pion angles.
