Proposed work items for 2002
User and Category Interfaces
- XML-based interfaces
- Integration of GUI with AIDA-2.2
Documentation Management
- detailed document review
EM Working Group Proposed Work Items
Comparison projects
- Atlas : conclusions and publication.
- Babar : continuing
- Hope for additional comparisons, including from LHCb, CMS, ..
Developments in standard em
- High Energy processes (above 10 TeV)
- precise investigation of the current processes
- a program of development for the next two years.
- In a similar vein, Helmut Burkhardt (Cern) is implementing gamma conversion into muons pair : first half of this year.
- We are on the way to redesign the 'standard' processes in order to have a model approach, and better compatibility with 'low energy' processes.
- new implementation of models of Transition Radiation detectors.
- new implementation of the Synchrotron radiation.
The discussion with the MEPhI group (Kokoulin, Kelner, Rybin) has started to evaluate the needs, by type of experimental fields.
A priority list has been agreed for :
Milestone: a prototype in the first halh of this year.
Plot of cross sections
To be done in conjunction with the development of analysis tool.
Define a standard way to access crosssections, de/dx, etc.. for all processes.
The store/retrieve PhysicsTables could be a starting point.
Milestone: a prototype by end of the year.
Cut per region
Mandatory: a prototype this year.
Implies minimal change in a few em processes.
Documentation
- User guide
- Physics reference manual
- design documents
- Milestone : a paper on Multiple Scattering
Low Energy Electromagnetic WG
- In-depth study and solution of various open problems
- New physics features, also in collaboration with users
- Continuation of the major e.m. design iteration agreed at the Orsay workshop and in progress since last year
- Improvement of testing
- Advanced examples
- Joint project with Anaphe for SPI
- Joint project with CERN/API analysis team for ?Analysis in simulation? (based on AIDA interfaces)
-OOAD
-definition of process
Visualisation
·Implementation of DCUT (slice picture) in plural drivers
(At present, only OpenGL driver support it.)
·More intelligent DrawTrajectory() method
·More flexible interface to WIRED, e.g., network control of WIRED by G4
·Improvement of vis commands, e.g, introduction of flushAll command.
·Improvement of HepPolyhedron (including BooleanProcessor)
·Modeling G4 geometry with GBuilder
Hadronic WG
Support, validation
- Include at least one test-beam simulation into regular validation
- Improved validation suite for the cascade energy range
Development, improvement, release
- Release of cascade part of HETC re-write (carry forward from 2001)
- Include gamma nuclear reactions in QGS model
- Include the charge state treatment for recoils
- Bring kinetic model to releasable state
- Provide a generic scattering term for cascade type models
- Improve electro-nuclear cross-sections to take hard scattering into account.
Particle/Track
Development
·Implement functionality to retrieve/save particle properties from/into file
·HepPDT interface (for release 1.00.01)
·Improve performance in tracking
Cut per region
·Analysis and design. How to keep cut value for particles is the biggest issue.
Documentation
·Improve and update section of user guide
· Update design documents, especially scenario diagrams
Persistency
Design Issues:
- Move the persistency implementation part to extended examples
New Development:
- Ability to switch between multiple persistency technologies
- new example of ROOT I/O
- Support persistent HepMC read and convert to transient HepMC
- Base class to register user converter
Support Issues:
- Drop Objectivity geometry part in next major release? (TBD)
