Minutes
The minutes of last TSB meeting were approved.4.0.1 release
John Allison thanked the people who were contributing to the release, with a special mention to the contribution by Hajime Yoshida, who had been running the Geant4 examples for testing purposes.Granular libraries
It was reported that they were in place.STL interface
The interface consists of a set of include files, that are RW-emulation wrappers for STL include, and it only covers what is needed to run Geant4. Debugging was still in progress. It was asked to define a clear policy about STL use in the future, as this would affect all the developments already in progress for the next release.
After a thorough discussion the TSB decided that from the next 4.1 release on the STL version will be supported only.
System Testing Report
The system testing for the 4.0.1 release was still in progress. It was decided to have a meeting after the release to review the release procedure. It was remarked that manpower had been deducted from the Hadronic Working Group to be extensively employed in the System Testing. It was suggested to make a better use of the existing resources belonging to the Testing Group.
Random Number Status Storing
It was decided not to introduce any new features concerning the random number status into the 4.0.1 release; they will be postponed to the next release.CLHEP
CLHEP version 1.4 is required for the Geant4.0.1 release.Distribution of libraries
It was decided to distribute libraries with some verbose capability, useful for debugging; they will not be the fastest. As part of the release distribution, it will be documented what kind of libraries are distributed and how to build the fastest libraries.Visualization
Geant4 visualization is quite stable; code refinements have been the major work recently. The implementation of functionality for DTREE and improvements in saving pictures were requested.Hadronic Physics
An extensive overview of the work in progress or planned to start in the near future was presented. It was reported that significant amounts of manpower foreseen for FTF model and string fragmentation were diverted to support tasks by the spokesman, while on critical path.
Two collaborators (A. Feliciello and C. Dallapiccola) have choosen to not continue their work on Geant4. The responsibilities they had taken in the Hadronic Working Group are delayed accordingly.
ESA
The Sector Shielding Analysis Tool was released at beta02; the Radioactive Decay Module and the CAD Front-end Tool are in progress; low energy extensions of the electromagnetic processes down to 250 eV are available. There has been growing interest among various INFN experimental groups about the Geant4 Low Energy project, and possibilites of collaboration were being considered.
CMS
Various use of Geant4 in CMS was reported, including the progress with the simulation of the full detector.Italy
A growing interest in Italy about Geant4 was reported.TRIUMF
Larry Felawka will quit Geant4; a new student will join.Responsibility Matrix
It was decided that an Example subgroup will be listed as part of the Documentation Working Group, with Makoto Asai taking the responsibility for the coordination of the examples. It was decided that the Detector Response and Persistency Working Group would become the Persistency Working Group, while the Detector Response part would go into the Event and Run Working Group.
It was agreed not to modify the MoU itself, but to record changes as addenda.
It was observed that there has been a recruitement into the System Testing of collaborators from other working groups, while several members of the Testing Working Groups did not seem to be active.
Migration to ISO C++ standard
It was decided to postpone the discussion to a later TSB.Tracking in parallel geometries
A proposal was presented. It was requested to further discuss the technical issues with the Geometry group and other collaborators from Japan involved in related domains.Web pages
The web task force had had various meetings since the last TSB; new web pages were available.Distribution of the TSB minutes
It was decided that the internal TSB minutes will be distributed by email only and will not be posted on the web.New Collaborators
The following applications were presented and accepted:CMS: R. Gokieli (affiliation to be verified)
IGD: Elvio Di Salvo and Lorenzo Bellagamba (Hadronic Physics Working Group), Marisa Luvisetto and Enzo Ugolini (Software Management Working Group)
Two collaborators have stopped their participation: C. Dallapiccola (Common) and A. Feliciello (IGD).
Next release
The discussion about the next release was postponed to the next TSB meeting.Next TSB meeting
It will take place during the Geant4 workshop at ESTEC.
